TVET Program
Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) equips learners with practical, job-ready skills through competency-based, outcome-driven approaches. This program blends theoretical learning with real-world work experience to match labor market demands
Major Purposes
- To equip trainees with relevant, job-ready technical and vocational skills, attitudes and knowledge that increase their employability,
- To provide support entrepreneurship, and meet the needs of local, regional and national industries
Detailed functions of a TVET Program
- Deliver competency-based training that combines practical hands-on experience with applied theory.
- Use simulated workshops and work-based learning (internships, apprenticeships, on-the-job training).
- Build strong industry partnerships to co-design training, offer placements, and validate competencies.
- Provide short modular courses for rapid re-skilling when technologies or market needs change.
- Implement standardized, competency-based assessments that lead to nationally recognized certificates.
- Facilitate industry attachments for trainers so they stay current with technology and practice.
- Provide up-to-date workshops, labs and tools that reflect workplace standards.
- Integrate entrepreneurship training: business planning, financial literacy, marketing, regulations, and simple accounting.
- Mobilize apprenticeships, internships, and shared training facilities with employers.
- Conduct applied research on skills gaps, productivity bottlenecks and technology adoption in Ethiopian industries.
Admission
Unity University TVET Unit will be in accordance with the TVET Admission requirement declared by Ministry of Labor and Skills (MOLS) every year. The cut point to admit trainees varies from year to year and it is determined by the MOLS.
Registration Requirements
Criteria
- National exam results/ remedial results
- Completed application form.
- Academic credentials meeting entry requirements for Level II-IV
- Valid ID copy and Transcript from grade 11-12.
- Two passport-size photos.
- Payment of registration fee.
Assessment Process
- Theory: Written exams to assess knowledge.
- Demonstration: Practical tasks like sales presentations and market research.
- Cooperative Training: Real-world work-based evaluation with industry partners.
Grading Codes:
- C – Competent (meets criteria)
- NYC – Not Yet Competent
- NG – No Grade (incomplete or pending)
Payment
- Term-based fee payment.
- Accepted channels: bank deposit, mobile banking, or at the finance office.

Graduation Criteria
To graduate, trainees must:
- Complete all UCs at their enrolled level.
- Achieve “Competent (C)” in all assessments.
- Obtain the corresponding National COC Certificate.
