The Libraries in Unity University serve as the essential intellectual hub of the University, dedicated in supporting the academic excellence of students, faculty, and the wider research community. The primary purposes of our libraries are to provide a comprehensive and accessible environment that fosters learning, innovation, and critical thinking. By offering a diverse collection of digital and physical resources, the library functions as a vital support unit that facilitates rigorous study, provides expert information literacy guidance, and ensures that all stakeholders have the tools necessary to achieve their educational goals.

Purpose

• Acquire, organize, and maintain a high-quality collection of print and digital resources that directly support the undergraduate and postgraduate programs offered by the university.
• Provide students and faculty with access to global electronic databases, peer-reviewed journals, and scientific publications to foster high-level academic inquiry.
• Maintain a conducive, quiet, and well-organized study environment that caters to both individual focused work and collaborative group learning.
• Establish and maintain links with national and international library networks to expand the range of resources available to our users.

The OPALS System – Digital Resources

 The automation of the Library systems creates sustainable state-of-the-art technology that is easy to use, easy to access and share instructional resources that enable students, faculty, and librarians to make and manage almost paper-free requests. In this regard, the University has adopted a proven open-source automated library system called Open Access Library System (OPALS) which:

• Allows real time collection, interaction by students and faculty.
• Users access the online catalogue system. Users can automatically request items held by the system.
• Has extensive management and reporting capabilities. User ID’s and password allow the Library’s Administration to restrict access to specific items and to OPALS system commands and reports.

To ensure equitable and effective access to our resources, Unity University Libraries are governed by a formal Library Services Policy and Procedure Manual. This manual serves as a definitive guide for staff and students alike, streamlining library functions and ensuring that services are delivered in accordance with established institutional standards.
