Introduction
The University Alumni Association is a vital institutional platform established to strengthen the lifelong relationship between the university and its graduates. It serves as a bridge connecting alumni with their alma mater, and the wider community, while promoting professional collaboration, social responsibility, and institutional development. 

Establishment and Background

The unity university Alumni Association was founded in by a group of committed graduates who recognized the importance of unity, networking, and collective contribution to the university’s growth. From its early stages, the establishment of the Association was strongly supported by the current President and CEO of Unity University Dr. Arega Yirdaw, who played a significant role in initiating, encouraging and strengthening the Association.

The president clearly, blived in the necessity of a strong Alumni Association as integral part of a modern higher education institution. His convention was based in understanding that alumni are key stakeholders who can contribute academically, professionally, socially and financially to the university.

To institutionalize the support to the Alumni Association the university has established a dedicated office known as Students and Alumni Affairs services. This office was created to ensure the proper functioning, sustainability, and effectiveness of the Alumni Association.

This service plays a central supportive role in the operation of Alumni Association. Its key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the Association in fulfilling its mission, Vision, and objectives.
  • Mobilizing and encouraging graduates to register and actively participate as members.
  • Coordinating alumni engagement programs with departments.
  • Supporting leadership development and capacity building the Association
  • Ensuring a alignment of alumni activities with the university’s mission and vision

This structured support demonstrate the university’s commitment to nurturing a strong and functional Alumni Association.

Purpose

The main purposes of the Unity University Alumni Association focus on the following four pillars

  1. To provide a forum for exchange of information ideas and resources among members of the Alumni to improve and encourage alumni members to stay connected and serve as advocates for the University.
  2. To promote the interest of unity university in order to establish a mutually beneficial relationship between Alumni members and the University and leverage the talents and initiatives of alumni and friends to advise, and guide, advocate for and support the University in achieving its objectives,
  3. To assist and contribute to the building of education and training system that assures quality and equity education with the aim of producing competent citizens across the Country; and
  4. To create a University Community that includes the families of Alumni

By- Law

To insure smooth operation and good governance an Alumni Association by-Law has been developed and endorsed.This by –Law provides a clear legal and operational frame work for the Association and help it achieve its core goals effectively.

The by-law incorporates, among others, the following key components:

  • Purpose
  • Categories of Membership
  • Criteria for membership
  • Membership Rights
  • Membership Obligation
  • Alumni Benefits /Reward
  • Organizational Structure
  • Financial
  • General Assembly
  • Quorum
  • Voting

The existence of this By-Law is a major strength as it promotes transparency, accountability and continuity.

Membership and current situation

Since its establishment, the Unity University Alumni Association has shown steady growth in membership each year, new graduates are added to the Association, and efforts are ongoing to register alumni from earlier graduating classes.

Currently the Association is characterized by increasing alumni participation, improved communication with the University, and a growing sense of ownership and commitment among members.

Until now the Association has conducted meetings. At these meetings various issues have been discussed and decisions have been made. Now the number of the Association member is increased.Currently, the total number of members of the Association isthe gradual increasing membership of the Association reflects growing a wetness and acceptance of the Association among graduates. 

Activities Performed

Over the past 10 years, the Unity University Alumni Association has implemented a range of activities aligned with its mission. Key activities include:

  • Organizing alumni meetings, forums, and networking events.
  • Facilitating mentorship opportunities between alumni and current students.

These activities have strengthened alumni cohesion, enhanced students support, and increased the university’s societal impact.The strong backing from Unity University leadership and presence of a clear By-law provide a solid foundation for the Alumni Association.
